CHILDESIGN is "the voice for children in the design process." Membership supports our mission to foster a better, safer, more responsive designed world for children.

Two decades ago, CHILDESIGN was a lone voice screaming in the wilderness. It persisted and introduced this issue into national dialogue. Now people are listening!

By adding your voice to our own, CHILDESIGN can turn the volume up...WAY up, as we continue to speak out on behalf of children.

Together, we will be a voice for children that cannot be ignored. Or silenced. Together, we can insure that children are kept front and center in the discussion about how (and what) products and environments are developed.

Good design for children is good business; the best interests of children can harmoniously co-exist with market opportunities. In joining CHILDESIGN, you say that you agree.

Levels of membership:


CHILDESIGN's member base will effectively let the world know that there are sizable numbers of people who care deeply about the quality of the designed world that is being provided for our children.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP is FREE to our concerned public. It means you add your voice to ours and authorize CHILDESIGN to speak on your behalf as we work to influence, to inform, and to protect children by design. There is no need to renew General Membership; once enrolled, CHILDESIGN will speak for you (until you notify us otherwise). However, we hope you will consider joining us at an ADVANCED MEMBERSHIP level.

An ADVANCED MEMBERSHIP LEVEL not only adds your voice to ours, but also generously provides critically-needed financial support for CHILDESIGN to continue its urgent work. Advanced memberships are a vitally important contribution to CHILDESIGN's public advocacy efforts to change attitudes and protect children.

ADVANCED LEVEL MEMBERS will also receive the following benefits:

• A subscription to our quarterly on-line magazine launching in SUMMER 2004 and available through a special access code given to Supporting Members only, starting with the Fall 2004 issue. CHILDESIGN Magazine will offer detailed documentation of CHILDESIGN's Design Demonstration Projects as well as other featured interviews, news and projects that will illuminate this subject and the many topics and disciplines it covers.



• Discounts on selected products will be made available through the CHILDESIGN Studio Collection (also launching in the Fall). We invite companies to submit member benefit proposals for our consideration and encourage members to tell us what other benefits they'd like to see.



• Benefactors, Guardians, Role Models, and Foundation Builders will be listed on a Special Members page (unless they prefer to be anonymous).



• In recognition of the fact that this membership drive is still in development, and to help facilitate a growth spurt, we will be offering a bonus period to members who join by August 31, 2004. Join now and your membership will continue through December 31, 2005!

CHILDESIGN is a 501(C)3 organization; memberships are tax-deductible to the amount permissible by law.

We envision CHILDESIGN membership chapters across the country. A locality will be eligible to apply for chapter status when membership levels in a community reach 1,000 individuals at the supporting or higher levels. In addition to the above benefits, CHAPTERS will be entitled to receive a one day of on-site consultation each year from CHILDESIGN's founding president, Sandra Edwards, to be used in any way most advantageous to that community: design clinic; community-wide lecture; staff training/professional development (such as with teachers in a community), etc. Organize and spread the word!
