CHILDESIGN

CHILDESIGN's CRITERIA FOR SELECTING FOUNDING SPONSORS

As a not-for-profit (501(C)3) organization who must maintain an independent, uncompromised voice, CHILDESIGN is highly selective about the sources of its funding. We choose as partners companies who, by the quality of their own character, help communicate the integrity of our efforts.

CHILDESIGN is the leader in advocating excellence, innovative thinking and greater responsibility toward children in the design of products and environments. Similarly, we look to leaders in the industries intersecting our own mission to underwrite and support this vital work.

For this most strategic alliance -- the sponsorship of CHILDESIGN.org, the National Center on Design for Children, our educational institute in cyberspace -- we elect companies who wholeheartedly support CHILDESIGN's mission and its innovative perspective, without directives or restrictions. Companies who recognize that in furthering CHILDESIGN's unique approach, investigations and solutions, they will further their own design literacy and knowledge in this area...and, by their generosity, will also further the awareness, the design literacy and the education of the rest of the country.

In supporting CHILDESIGN's cutting-edge ideas -- about how design can dramatically aid and improve the daily lives of children and families - and its on-going work to change stereotypical and misguided mind-sets...

Our Sponsors express a true understanding that "cutting edge" is not a place, but rather an attitude.

And it is such an attitude that CHILDESIGN is working diligently to put in place nationwide, on behalf of children's best interests. Our Founding Sponsors already possess this attitude. And with this attitude, these companies, organizations and individuals will always be on the "cutting edge."

Sponsorship, therefore, also reflects a company's confidence in its own philosophy and product lines. Unlike the many companies who have actually told us that they don't want us "to improve their competition," our Sponsors know they have nothing to fear in helping CHILDESIGN to improve design for children, industry-wide and nationwide. In fact, their Sponsorship clearly says that they are proud to help us do so!

A strong industry position alone is not enough; enlightened thinking is also a necessary criterion. Founding Sponsors share CHILDESIGN's concern for design professionals and the building trades, our deep commitment to families and communities and, most of all, our dedication to the welfare of children.
